Every region has its local icons. Bundy has its rum and Gundagai has the dog that……. “sat” on the tuckerbox, whether they’re people, places, events or even things, it’s usually the first thing a local will tell you when you ask “What’s your town known for?” Well keeping this in mind I thought it was about time to add another section to our growing repository of local knowledge here in the Country Roads Project and so I’ve created a new page “Local Icons”.
The Local Icons page will be an ever-expanding list of what makes the Greater Toowoomba area so great. I’ve started the ball rolling with information on Bernborough, Oakey’s claim to fame in the racing industry. It never ceases to amaze me just how far people will travel to see the statue.
Other local icons that could be included are:
- Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers
- Steele Rudd
- Millmerran Camp Oven Festival
- The Local Shows
- Places on the State Heritage list
And that’s just a few ideas off the top of my head. If you’d like to submit an idea (or even write an entry) for inclusion to the Local Icons list, just drop us a line.
